5 reasons why you should visit Morzine this summer!
Trust us – there are plenty more reasons. Come and discover for yourself!
Often considered as a hidden gem in the summer months, Morzine offers a huge amount more over popular holiday destination spots in Europe.
Ok – we’re bias, we’ve lived here for 13 years and have been operating our small independent chalet company off the back of the natural and man made facilities Morzine has to offer.
But still – it doesn’t mean these 5 reasons don’t count, and our guests who come back year in year out tend to agree!
1. Morzine is just over one hour from Geneva
One of the main reasons why Morzine has become so popular in the last few years is down to the ideal location of the town. Situated in the vast Portes du Soleil, Morzine lies just over one hour from Geneva Airport at 1000 metres above sea level. But why is this so great?
Well – Bristol, Birmingham and London airport flight times are around 1 hour 15 minutes to Geneva, with a whole host of airlines fly every day into the ‘Gateway to the Alps’ airport. We recommend Swiss, EasyJet & BA – and they all have their different benefits (and not so good factors!)
So whether you’re coming to Morzine as part of a stag do or with the family, you can maximise your time having fun, and minimise your travel time. Dreamy!
2. The Mountains
Once the snow melts it feeds the surrounding mountains with the nutrients it needs too turn the valleys into luscious green landscapes, with vast areas of wild flowers. From meandering mountain bike trails in and out of the forests, to parepente parachutes dotting the skies with different colours, the activities are so visual all across Morzine – and just add to the natural beauty. Mountain Mavericks would be more than happy to give you a break down about the various summer activitiesavailable, otherwise visit our friends over at Morznet for more information. We promise you that an active holiday in our beautiful mountains is much more rewarding and satisfying than sunbathing on a busy beach resort though! Plus the nightlife is great!
3. Morzine’s Summer Events
Yes Morzine is a small alpine town, but WOW does it have an international event lineup coming to town this year. However it’s not just about the big events, the local weekly events are also just as important for the buzz of the town.
Firstly – Le Tour de France!
Yes, probably the most gruelling sporting event on the planet passes through Morzine on the 23rd July for one of the most important stages of the whole competition.
A month earlier we have arguably the most exciting Mountain Bike Competition in the World coming to Les Gets. Crankworx is the mecca for high adrenalin mountain biking, with jumps being built that are bigger than most people’s houses! The competition comes to the area on June 15-19th and L’Aubergade Hotel still has some accommodation available at €80 for a twin room!
We can’t forget the smaller events. From Morzine’s local town market on a Wednesday morning to L’Aubergade’s Bring Your Own Meat BBQ on a Tuesday evening – there is always something going on to keep you entertained. Have a look on Morzine Source Magazine’s weekly event lineup, alternatively we’ll provide you with a weekly lowdown of events, music and restaurants you have to try when you come on holiday in Morzine.
