Glenda – The Escape Series #2
If there were an award for general ‘local legend of Morzine’ then the rock of Mountain Mavericks; Glenda, would certainly be nominated.
If you’re new to Mountain Mavericks – then be ready to meet the nicest person on earth. If you’re a regular, then you need no introduction!
Having moved to Morzine 8 years ago, Glenda is second to none as an information source about Morzine. She is always telling guests about the best ski runs (ut hum – sorry, snowboard runs) in the Portes du Soleil, and knows the best places for food, apres and music during your stay in Morzine. She likes to get out into the mountains as much as possible and has practically met every Mountain Mavericks guest since she joined the Mountain Mavericks family.
Here is how Glenda ‘Escapes’ in #2 of our Escape Series.

“I came to Morzine to escape the ‘real’ world and all its trappings, but even here, there are still times I feel the need to escape to the neighboring mountains. These beautiful surroundings offer a multitude of ways to get completely away – for me hiking and biking offer new ways to see the beauty of the mountains and experience the hills & forests from different perspectives.”
“My favorite escape adventure would be hiking towards Roc d’Enfer in the late afternoon or morning and basing ourselves on the trail to the Col de Graydon. It’s very easy to get lost in the beautiful scenery whilst the sun sets and the stars arrive. Watching the sunrise or sunset over Mont Blanc is the clearest and best view to see Europes tallest mountain. Making it to the top of Roc d’Enfer is always an amazing experience, with uninterrupted views in all directions.
Camping is a great way to really escape and on a recent trip I felt like I’d been away for months even though it was one night – refreshed and ready to take on the world.
Waking up to breathtaking views definitely resets your perspective on the world and spending that time just being there allows you to enjoy all the other senses too like the smell of wild flowers or the sound of marmots squeaking!”
“There are plenty of little pit-stops around Morzine where its safe and legal to camp out- maybe it doesn’t have all the facilities, but it’s great for an impromptu get away, sometimes adventures should just be about grabbing moments with friends and sharing experiences. This is the reasoning behind the night in a refuge in our Mountain Mavericks Summer Activity Holidays, as no matter how young or old you are – it’s an experience that cannot be beaten. It’s even better knowing you have a nice warm shower on your arrival!”
If this has inspired you to escape, we’re taking bookings for winter 2016/17 and Summer 2017 and would love for you to stay in our chalets or hotel!
We hope you have a great day!
