The Revival of the Alpine Hotel
What’s so great about the Alpine Hotel?
Cosy, comfortable and welcoming are just a few words mentioned when we ask clients what’s so great about the alpine hotel. Our hotels, the L’Aubergade and Le Cottage, both offer a combination of great location, inviting setting and high-quality food perfect for both long and short term stays.
Hotel L’Aubergade in the snow
A couple of years ago, the ski industry was at a peak of classic chalet holidays; weeklong breaks in private sole occupancy chalets with a live-in team. However, times are changing, and fewer clients want to have such a structured ski holiday. Trends for shorter more frequent breaks are becoming more and more popular, with flexible catering and room options key. People are now searching for a combination of ‘home from home’ relaxed atmosphere with the space, facilities and flexibility of what you expect from a larger hotel – enter the revival of the classic alpine hotel.

As the huge popularity of social communities such as AirBnB continues to lead the growth of the sharing economy, it’s no surprise that sole occupancy chalets don’t always meet the needs of ski holiday customers. For this reason, we’re also adapting our chalets to be more flexible and evolve with changing trends, now offering three and four night breaks and being able to book by the room instead of taking a whole chalet.
Whilst many may look to self-catered accommodation, we believe that the combination of the location and sociable atmosphere of the alpine hotel is unbeatable. Staying in a hotel you’re part of a much bigger community and can happily dip in and out of the social scene; meeting people more easily than when you’re in a sole occupancy chalet, but also able to retire to your room when you want some alone time.
Similarly, eating at the hotel can be a more sociable alternative to eating in town every night, as you’re likely to bump into the same people and groups, where you can easily strike up friendships and drinking partners for the bar. You also have the option to eat alone if you want to wind down after a tiring day, or even head out to one of our recommended restaurants in town. In fact, this is one of the things our hotel customers rave about – having the best of both worlds and the option to be looked after or as self-sufficient as you want to be. We would best describe our hotels – L’Aubergade and Le Cottage – as serving good quality bistro-style food. Take a look at our website for our large and diverse menus. We also have daily specials and cater for dietary requirements.
Hanging out at the bar in Le Cottage Hotel
A little more personality and warmer atmosphere than a city or luxury hotel, the alpine hotel offers customers a friendlier more inviting place to hang out after skiing, including a great line up of weekly live après music. Mountain focused staff have great enthusiasm for their surroundings and this in turn provides a great buzz and warmth to the place. Not to mention the welcoming bar person who by the end of your stay will feel more like a friend than a member of staff.
The Mountain Mavericks hotels offer a perpetual hubbub of conversation and relaxation in a comfortable, friendly environment, and we also have a full range of concierge services.
