When is the best time to go on a ski holiday to Morzine?
The Alps are amazing no matter when you visit, and the best time to come away on a ski holiday really is personal preference. Morzine is linked to higher resort Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soleil, there is always some great skiing to be had, even at the beginning and ends of the winter season.
However, different times of the season are awesome for different reasons, and there is certainly sometimes which many find more favourable than others.
Conditions vary throughout the season, with snowfall changing every year. However, it’s safe to say that January and February generally have more wintery days, whilst April provides those beautiful sunny spring days. So how do you know when’s best for you and your group to visit Morzine?
April:
April is one of our favourite months of the season. Quiet slopes, warmer temperatures, and generally more consistent bluebird days – what’s not to love! April is a great month to escape the city and enjoy some end of season snow, with recent years seeing weather patterns provide some epic snowfall later in winter. The sun shines for longer, giving beautiful spring days that are ideal for long lunches lounging in deckchairs up the mountain and dancing in your ski boots during après ski. Based at the bottom of the Pleney lift, Le Cottage Hotel is a fantastic location for skiing and an easy place to settle into a chair on the sunny terrace to enjoy some live music.
Come and stay with us between the 1st-8th April in Chalet L’Atelier or Chalet Kaplamaki sole occupancy for only £699. Get in touch with our team on thechalet@mountainmavericks.com for more information.
February:
Ideal for families, February half-term provides a perfect time to bring the kids away to the snow to absorb the healthy fresh air of the mountains. Get them into ski school to enjoy some time away, and they’ll also be thrilled with learning to cruise on the slopes with their new friends! As a family owned company, we know our chalets provide the perfect home-away-from-home for families, with welcoming hosts on hand for breakfast, afternoon tea and scrummy dinners, as well as child friendly meals.
Behind our hotel, L’Aubergade, is also a small slope area for sledging and learning to ski, so you can happily sit on the terrace and enjoy the sunshine whilst the children play.
January:
January in the French Alps is often massively underrated. Whilst the days are shorter than in the spring, colder conditions can bring excellent snow conditions and often bright blue skies! The pistes are largely empty without lift queues throughout the month as the masses are back to work or school after the New Year break.
Enjoy a holiday in our chalets – La Prele or Kaplamaki – for a homely setting and tasty food, not to mention the luxury of coming back to your own hot tub after a long day on the slopes to relax and unwind in as the sun goes down!
