5 Reasons to visit Morzine this winter. Mountain Mavericks Top Picks!
Winter oh winter!
The time of year when the temperature drops, the nights become longer and the mornings feel as fresh as new bed sheets.
Winter is our favourite time of the year in Morzine. The peaks get white, the town gets full, and the lifts start up so that the best sport in the world can begin!
Here are 5 reasons why you should 100% visit Morzine this winter.
1.) Fondue & Food.
Everyone is a foodie now. Whether you like it or not, the general foodie scene has never been more apparent with celebrity chefs keeping you entertained and restaurants serving better food than ever. No matter your tastes, food is a must for a memorable experience!
Morzine has become a resort of great cuisine. Whether you’re looking for traditional Savoyard meals, gourmet cuisine or a memorable burger – Morzine has it all!
For traditional Savoyarde meals you have to check out Le Clan D’Oile Fondue or L’Etale’s raclette. Traditional alpine meals tend to be lathered in rich cheese which couples well with local wine and a strong Genepi!
If you prefer a modern gourmet experience – then the daily specials at the Le Chamade in Morzine is a great experience. Fortunately, they also have a cheese bar downstairs!
This year, Chalet Chambertin has it’s very own private professional chef to create all this and more – in house. Having competed in Master Chef, and specialising in a gourmet dishes influenced by the surrounding mountains, Lucie – your in chalet chef – will be hosting a complete bespoke chalet food experience that will truly make your holiday a week to remember.

2.) Morzine’s winter events scene
(Picture: Film evening at L’Aubergade.)
Morzine has a huge amount of weekly events throughout the winter. From weekly town centre exhibitions to a busy music and nightlife scene – the extracurricular activities outside of skiing & snowboarding is always electric, suiting all tastes and ages!
Every Tuesday there are fireworks on the Pleney, with larger fireworks displays at Christmas, New Year & Half-Term. You must also catch an Ice Hockey fixture if you’re lucky enough to have the team play a home game whilst you are in town.
When the sun starts to go down the town becomes alive with music. Morznet will let you know what music is happening in town during your stay and Mountain Mavericks will put a weekly events schedule in the chalet for your arrival!
We’re very proud of our music evenings at L’Aubergade, including the famous L’Aubergade Steak & Jazz evenings which are always incredible. Follow L’Aubergade’s Facebook to be the first in the know of music events in Morzine. Check out Beanies, Marmotte D’Or & The Cavern for other great music venues, with Happy Hours & Tremplin providing great DJs for aprés.
This year we have the amazing Transitions & Snowboxx Festival in Avoriaz, which is always a treat!
3.) The skiing – obviously!
(Picture: Team Mountain Mavericks about to enjoy some off-piste!)
With over 650km of pistes, Le Portes du Soleil is one of the largest skiing areas in Europe. The variety of skiing is a key reason why Morzine and the surrounding area has trended so highly as a ski area over the past few years.
We love skiing the Fornet area of Avoriaz and there are some great runs on Mont Chery in Les Gets. Head up the Pleney to catch a view of Mont Blanc, and make sure you try the Linderettes bowl or Goat Village for lunch one day. Avoriaz has been named the snowiest resort in the Alps numerous times over the last 5 years so make sure you make the most of the conditions this year!
You can get a range of lift passes costing various prices. Have a look at Morznet’s recent post on Portes du Soleil lift passes for more information. Along with airport transfers and ski hire – Mountain Mavericks will organise everything for your arrival in Morzine.
4.) It’s just over an hour from Geneva airport.
Ok – we say this every year. But it doesn’t change the fact that it’s still unbelievably awesome!
Geneva – Morzine takes between 1 hour 15 and 1 hour 30 minutes on a regular day. This means that if you get the early flights you can ski on the same day, plus the children don’t become restless from excitement!
Unlike the likes of Val D’Isere, Meribel or Zermatt, that take over twice as long as the actual flight – you’ll be up in the mountains in no time with Morzine!
“Are we there yet?” “Yes actually… yes we are..”
5.) Morzine’s accommodation
(Picture: Twin room in Mountain Mavericks. Chalet Le Prele)
Morzine doesn’t try to be something that it’s not.
You won’t find rows of designer shops with bodyguards outside (ut hum, Courcheval), or ridiculously priced alpine stores (sorry Chamonix!).
What you will find is a huge amount of independent chalet companies run by smiling British mountain enthusiasts with staff to match.
Ski resorts can change very quickly with trends and investment. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes pushed so that said resort becomes elitist and frankly – too expensive to have fun!
Fortunately, with Morzine you get honesty, and things don’t cost an arm and a leg. If that’s not a reason to come to Morzine this winter, then we don’t know what is!
After all; our company motto is Personal, Tailored & Honest in everything we do.
So there are just 5 reasons why you should visit our beautiful town of Morzine this winter for a ski holiday. We’d love to tell you more and welcome you into our homes for a relaxing week!
